Copper Leg Art residency located in northern Estonia, near to the Estonian capital city Tallinn. Activities began in summer 2017 with the help of local municipality and Rae Culture Center. It is a meeting point for creative people, visual artists, musicians, writers etc. for making their art and showing it to people.

About Copper Leg Residency

Located 18 km from Tallinn city center, in the village of Vaskjala, in an old school building surrounded by fields. The house was constructed in 1934 and newly renovated in summer 2017. The area is very calm and surrounded by beautiful nature which makes it a quiet space to live and work. At the same time, the Estonian capital city Tallinn is easily reachable, one can get to the City center in 25 min. by bus or in 15 min. by car.

Copper Leg Art Residency invites visual artists and land art practitioners to apply for residencies in a quiet landscape setting in Vaskjala village, Rae Parish, Harju County, Estonia.  

Situated in an old school building surrounded by fields, paths, hedges, a garden and open terrain, Copper Leg offers time and space for research, crafting and reflection. We welcome work that engages with land, site, material, environment, ecology, spatial processes or landscape intervention — whether through ecological inquiry, site‑specific practice, material exploration, installation, or visual work that thinks with land conceptually or physically. 

Residency Details 

  • Residency period: July – November 
  • Duration: 2 weeks – 2 months 
  • Location: Vaskjala, Rae Parish, Harju County, Estonia 
  • Application deadline: April 1st, 2026 

What Copper Leg Offers 

  • Home‑type accommodation with private bedrooms, shared kitchen, sauna, located within a calm rural edge landscape.  
  • Shared studio space and access to tools (e.g., darkroom, printing press, basic workshop tools). 
  • Small budget(200-1000€) 
  • Time and focus for artistic development in close proximity to land and environment. 
  • Opportunity to share your practice through public engagement — open studio, workshop, walk, talk or presentation (timing and format by agreement).

  • Visual artists and land art practitioners 
  • Site‑specific and spatial practitioners 
  • Emerging and established individuals, duos or groups 
  • Local and international applicants 

We explicitly encourage applications from those whose work engages with landscape/land as medium, context or field of inquiry — materially, ecologically, conceptually or poetically. 

What We Expect 

  • Full commitment to the agreed residency dates 
  • Respect for the site, its materials and natural environment 
  • Willingness to share part of your process publicly through an event, walk, talk or open studio 
  • Careful use of outdoor materials and awareness of ecological impact
