On 29th January, people around the world gathered to celebrate Lunar New Year, a time to honor ancestors, reflect on the past, and embrace new beginnings. The celebration emphasizes family, heritage, and continuity through symbols of prosperity, such as red envelopes and special foods. We at Copper Leg are celebrating together with our artist, Kim Cardoso. It’s a time to reconnect with one’s roots and invite good fortune for the year ahead.
Kim Cardoso is a visual artist based in Oakland, California. Working primarily with wax and pigment, her practice explores the intersections between humanity and nature, driven by a curiosity about the passage of time. She is process-oriented and enjoys the physicality of her materials, drawing on her formal training as a metalsmith and decades of experience as a midwife.
Kim came to Copper Leg to explore her Estonian heritage, reflecting on collected memories, lost time, and connecting with the landscape her grandmother loved and left behind. This is her first international residency.

Kim Cardoso loomigu esitlus
29. jaanuaril kogunesid inimesed üle kogu maailma tähistama Kuu uut aastat, aega esivanemate austamiseks, mineviku üle järele mõtlemiseks ja uute alguste vastuvõtmiseks. Püha rõhutab perekonna, pärandi ja järjepidevuse tähtsust läbi heaolu sümbolite, nagu punased ümbrikud ja erilised toidud. Me Vaskjala Loomeresidentuuris tähistame koos oma kunstnik Kim Cardosoga. See on aeg, et uuesti ühenduda oma juurtega ja kutsuda ligi head õnne järgmiseks aastaks.
Kim Cardoso on kunstnik, kes elab Oaklandis, Californias. Peamiselt vaha ja pigmendiga töötades uurib ta inimkonna ja looduse ristumiskohti, olles ajaga seotud uudishimu ajendatud. Ta on protsessipõhine ja naudib oma materjalide füüsilisust, tuginedes oma ametikoolitusele metallikunstnikuna ja aastakümnete pikkusele töökogemusele ämmaemandana. Kim tuli Vaskjala Loomeresidentuuri, et uurida oma Eesti pärandit, mõeldes kogutud mälestustele, kadunud ajale ja ühendusesse maastikuga, mida tema vanaema armastas ja jättis maha. See on tema esimene rahvusvaheline residentuur.
