13:30 – 16:30 Open doors day at Copper Leg Art Residency / Art presentations by Florine Mougel, Ben Caro & Kat Cutler‐MacKenzie.
Ben Caro (b. London, 1998) and Kat Cutler-MacKenzie (b. Belfast, 1997) share a collaborative artistic practice that draws upon techniques from experimental archaeology — in which found objects are re-cast, re-staged, or re-performed to unlock tacit histories and pedagogic methods of communication — such as the 35mm slide lecture. As the duo are also both trained art historians — with a combined background in archaeology, cinema, historical re-enactment, and feminist theory — their artworks can be understood as a form of practice-based research. Their collaborative work is informed by historiographic excavation and seeks to explore the intertwined practices of museology, art history, and art through photography and the (re-)construction of negative space. Caro and Cutler-MacKenzie live and work in Edinburgh. At Copper Leg Art Residency they have been exploring sculptural and photographic forms of visual communication and presentation to emphasize and articulate the role of wood as a ‘support structure’, which is defined by artist Céline Condorelli as that which ‘bears, sustains, and props…stands behind, frames, and maintains’.
Florine Mougel is a media artist based in Rennes, France. After studying Cinema and Fine Arts in France, she graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Art and Design in Linz, Austria. Since 2019, she has been focusing on sound art within the RGBastler collective, developing DIY modular synthesizers and hacking sound devices.
During her stay at Copper Leg Art Residency, she is exploring the sonic gesture of friction-granulation in a sound performance mixing electronic sounds and field-recordings.
See you on Sunday!
